PEPPERED SNAIL & BOILED PLANTAIN!

Peppered Snail.
Snails, fondly called Congo Meat are a great delicacy to those who eat them. Give me snails any day, anytime, anywhere.Snails can be served as healthy snack or accompanied with rice, plantain, and whatever meal you want to serve with them. They are supposed to be crunchy when cooked. If not well prepared by washing with lime and adding straight into boiling water, they become soft like any other meat. To fully enjoy snails, make them crunchy and a bit peppery.

 INGREDIENTS:

  • Salt
  • Onion
  • Snail
  • Curry
  • Thyme
  • Tomatoes
  • Plantain
  • Vegetable oil
  • Green Pepper

Method:

  • Peel and boil unripe plantain
  • Wash snails with lime/lemon and water.
  • Place washed snails in boiling water, add salt, Stock cube and onion,
  • Cook for about 20 minutes.
  • Blend tomatoes, pepper and onion, roughly I usually use a lot of pepper because I need it to be hot:
  • Pour tomato mixture in a pot and boil till the water dries up.
  • Heat up a pan/pot, add vegetable oil When the oil is hot, add the chopped onion and fry for a bit,
  • Add the green pepper, everywhere will just be scenting.
  • Add curry and Stock cube again,
  • Add boiled tomato mixture and fry for about 5 minutes,
  • Add the boiled snail Reduce the heat of your cooker and allow it to stew slowly.
  • After about 5-10 minutes it should be ready to eat.

Serve with rice/boiled yam/ fried yam/ boiled plantain!
